Lordi получила известность в 2002 году с хитами Would You Love a Monsterman и Devil Is a Loser. Как и все финские группы, претендующие на международную известность, исполняет песни на английском языке. Стиль зрелищный хард-рок, три первые альбома группы стали в Финляндии платиновыми.
20 мая 2006 группа прорвалась на международную арену, победив с рекордным отрывом на конкурсе Евровидение с песней Hard Rock Hallelujah. Буквально через неделю на главной площади Хельсинки состоялся массовый (80 000 человек) караоке-запев хита, вошедший в книгу Гиннесса.
Группу нужно не столько слушать, сколько смотреть шоу мостров с множеством спецэффектов. Сохраняя имидж группа отказывается фотографироваться и выступать без масок и костюмов. Так, не желая появляться в смокинге на публике, Mr. Lordi отказался от приглашения на президентский прием.
Группа много и успешно гастролирует за границей. В Финляндии выступает нечасто, игнорируя многотысячные рок-фестивали и изредка появляясь в небольших клубах и шоу.
